First time carving a pumpkin

Clint cleaning out his pumpkins. It's
wise to have towels on
hand and wear clothes you can get messy!
Brandon and me with our pumpkin!
Believe it or not, I carved a pumpkin for the first time this week. I think growing up we would buy pumpkins already carved and decorated or use plastic pumpkins. Thankfully, one of my best friends Brandon attended our friend Clint's "Pumpkin' Carvin' Party" with me and Brandon helped with the carving.

Using the knives and tools can be scary and dangerous, so be careful and set up on a flat surface. It also got a little messy so I suggest taking off your jewelry and rolling up your sleeves. Since Brandon and I were beginners in the pumpkin carving arena, we went with the standard "Jack-O-Lantern" look, with a twist. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. This was defnitely a fun way to celebrate fall and do something different with friends.

Everyone's finished pumpkins - so creative!
I loved Alicia's polka dot pumpkin, adorable!

Do you carve and decorate pumpkins every October?
What's your favorite design to carve?

  2. I've always carved pumpkins. When I was little, my mom would buy special knives for us children to use so we would carve them ourselves but she didn't have to worry about us getting hurt. I love carving pumpkins but not to carve them, just I love roasting the pumpkin seeds from inside the pumpkin!

  6. I think I've done it twice in my lifetime. LOL It's a messy job! The knives are sharp so you have to be careful. Michaels are now carving the fake one's for you :) Might do that next year. I just usually plop two pumpkins on my steps.

  9. Oh my goodness, I can't believe you had to wait this long into your life to carve a pumpkin! It's fun, huh? A little messy but that's kind of part of it, right? I love the polka dotted one, too! Cute.

  11. Your Jack-O-Lantern looks great! Glad you were finally able to participate in such a fun tradition. I'm actually going to a pumpkin carving party tomorrow. Haven't done one in years, so hopefully mine doesn't look too bad! :)

  12. I like watching the photos of pumpkins for Halloween. In Poland Halloween isn't popular, some people even hate this holiday. However I remember that when I was in a primary school there were some competitions like "The best pumpkin", haha

  17. You did great for your first time carving! They all look so fun :)

I remember supervising my parents carving a pumpkin once when I was tiny, haha. I don't think we ever did it more than once, it was probably too messy! :)
