Arden's Garden 2 day detox review

With my boss, Sasha, who also joined our detox party!
So...I didn't tell you this on the blog (I only tweeted it), but I've been doing a detox for the past two days. My co-worker, Devon, thought we should try the Arden's Garden 2 Day Detox - she'd heard good things about it from a friend and we both wanted a good cleanse. Plus, the detox helps you drop a few pounds very quickly! You can only drink the juice and distilled water. The cleanse is supposed to help with weight loss, anxiety, energy, and cleansing.

Devon and I went shopping for our 2 gallon jugs at Whole Foods (it's $10 cheaper there than ordering it online or from Arden's Garden directly) on Tuesday after work. Then we detoxed on Wednesday and Thursday.

It helped having a friend doing the detox too and sharing our experience. While we paid for our juices in line, a woman in front of us shared how she'd done the detox before and appreciated the results, but "was constantly using the restroom."

My results: I'll start with the good. I did lose weight, about 7 pounds total, 4 pounds after the first day of detoxing. Not sure how long that weight loss will last since it happened so quickly, but it was great to feel clean and not bloated since the detox flushed everything out.

Things I didn't like: The taste got old after a few hours, and I already wasn't a fan of grapefruits. The acid from the juice (grapefruits, oranges, lemon, and distilled water) irritated my mouth and teeth some because I didn't drink enough water to counterbalance it. It's a LOT of liquid to drink in two days, I had to force myself to drink it all. The juice doesn't have much substance, unlike the fruit smoothies I make every morning, so I got hungry by the end of each work day. I tried to have a healthy snack on day 2, but my teeth were too sensitive to eat...no fun. But they're feeling better this morning.

Tips if you do this detox: Drink water, do it with a friend, do it on a weekend or when you don't have work, be prepared to potty lots, avoid food temptations.

Sasha and Devon's thoughts

Sasha says
she slept well after day 1, she got hungry throughout the work day, there was a strange after taste, she got a headache on day 2 but felt better after eating a few crackers.

Devon says
she also slept well after day 1, she enjoyed the cleanse, she felt a little loopy, she felt comfortable doing light exercise, she didn't enjoy the taste after hours of drinking it.

Have you ever done a detox or cleanse before?
What challenges did you face or what outcomes did you have?

  1. I've never done one and I probably wouldn't last even a quarter of the day lol! I have a really bad gag reflex! I admire your strength and will power! Go girl!

  2. Not a big believer of these detox or cleansing things. I'd rather just hit the gym until I lost/gained the weight and felt better.

  3. Way to go and awesome will power! I would have given into the temptation of eating food around lunch time on the first day!

  4. Oh man... While I think that a detox could be a good idea, I also think that it could be dangerous. 7 pounds is a lot of weight, oh man!!!

  6. I have been wanting to try and do this for a long time. I think that I would need a two days off to be able to do it properly. I love that it is an Atlanta company! Their smoothies are the best I have ever had.

  8. Vett, thank you and your friends for sharing your experiences. Detox can be so hard. I've never tried it. I've heard so many unpleasant experiences. I think I would only do it for one day. There are even 3 -7 day programs. I don't know how they do it. I just believe in eating in moderation and exercise. Hope your teeth feel better. And I would just stick to your original eating habits. I think that's better for you.

  11. Ohh I do cleanses all the time! There's an EXCELLENT cleanse/detox bar here in atlanta that has always been wonderful to me! It's called Dtox Juice. They offer various cleanse options as well as well as a detox baths. Their cleanses - they usually give you anywhere between 4 to 8 juices daily and they're all pretty tasty.

I think the greatest thing I've learned in doing cleanses is that it's a process. You have to do preparation before your cleanse and you have to do work after you cleanse as well to get the best possible benefits.

You should look into Dtox if you're interested, it's in Buckhead! They deliver too :) Or if you don't want to do a cleanse you can just pop in and order a single juice, tea, or a light dinner!

  14. So I've done the 2day detox before a few times. Did you do the full two day? Or did you snack during? I thought you could not cheat..wouldn't it defeat the purpose? I snacked before and felt like I received better results when I did not snack.

    1. I did the full 2 days, didn't snack during it - only drank water and the detox juice. I'm sure not snacking does help create better results, but I know it's challenging!

  15. I am starting the detox tomorrow. I have done several cleansings before and they all had benefits. Two of them were for 30 days with the right kind of food like fruits, vegetables, etc. I do believe that we all need a cleansing at least every quarter because of all the toxins in our food and air.

    1. I noticed a change after day 1 of the cleanse (24 hours of no eating food, just detoxing). But my friend didn't notice the difference until after day 2. It depends! :)

  19. Starting today. The juice isn't bad at all. My only worry is a hunger headache.
