Results of FebNEWruary

At the beginning of the month I did a post about how I'd try new things in February and how it would be the month of "newness" (FebNEWruary) - and it has been!

Here are some new/different things I've done this month!

I love Black History Month! I've taken some time to learn more
about my history -- I'm taking a great
course on African American history at Tech
that's already taught me so much!
Usually, I wear flats or boots (cowgirl boots), but I've been
adventurous this month rocking some HIGH heels!
Cooking breakfast for myself is a change (and one of my realistic goals for 2013) -
 typically it's just coffee or I'll get brunch from a restaurant.
Took MARTA to and from the airport instead of
having a friend drive me - more eco-friendly!
Tried spinach penne instead of the regular at FIGO pasta!

Studying with friends at the library instead of at my apartment.
I made more of an effort to attend a Tech men's basketball
game -- and it was a great one!
Drinking Dunkin' Donuts coffee instead of my
 usual Starbucks Blonde Roast.
Wearing different necklaces.
Green tea latte instead of my usual
White Chocolate Mocha/Blonde Roast.
My boss dropped this off at my desk - it's the popcorn
version of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. So interesting!
Eating at a vegetarian restaurant for the
 first time, *more details to come*
Studying outside on campus - so pretty!
Taking daytime photos of the skyline instead
of just nighttime ones - both are so great!
I went to NEW York :)
Did you do anything new or different this month? It's almost March and almost the weekend!! <3

Eating in ATL {La Tagliatella}

This post is a little late, because I went to this birthday dinner a few weeks ago - but it was my first time at La Tagliatella and I had to post about it. I think this restaurant is the perfect date spot or place to celebrate a special  occasion. It has a really authentic Italian menu, atmosphere and food selection.

We were celebrating our friend Can's birthday, and I think everyone enjoyed their food - and sharing everyone else's food too!

Birthday boy, Can!

 The restaurant allows you to mix and match, similar to Figo Pasta, but the choices are a little fancier. My combination was incredible! They also have a great selection of appetizers and desserts, yum!

Trying everyone's food!

Fashion picks for guys {j.crew}

I've told you how I occasionally get email requests for specific posts (which is great!), but this one was a surprise. I had a viewer request that I share some of my favorite preppy male fashion picks - so here they are! One of my favorite stores for guys (and for me!) is J. Crew - they really can do no wrong.

All of these looks can be found at the Mr. Porter website, under the J.Crew section!

I've mixed and matched some of my favorite guys shirts, sweaters, a blazer, trousers, and shoes!

Which one is your favorite? <3

Our last Onyx Ball

Every year at our school, the African American Student Union hosts an event called Onyx Ball - it's kind of like a semi-formal..but really a great chance for the black community at Tech to dress up, unite, and have a great night! As a senior, this was my last  Onyx Ball - bittersweet. My friends and I had such a great time and I finally got to wear this pink dress I bought at an H&M in Spain :)

Have a great week <3!

Brunch in ATL {silver skillet}

Brunch is so underrated. It's my favorite meal because it makes eating a waffle at 1pm totally acceptable. I love breakfast foods like waffles, pancakes, grits, hash browns (hungry yet?), and more! But I'm usually not really hungry when I wake up in the morning, and just have coffee or something light for breakfast.

Last Sunday after church, my friend Kendall and I decided to brunch at one of Atlanta's most classic restaurants, Silver Skillet. It's been open since 1956 and most ATL residents have heard of it, but maybe haven't eaten there.

I've eaten at Silver Skillet 2 or 3 times and their food never disappoints. The staff is friendly and the restaurant has a small, southern, and traditional feel to it. It's always busy on weekends - especially when tourist attractions are in Atlanta.

But the food is definitely worth making the effort to eat breakfast or brunch at Silver Skillet! The restaurant has also been featured in several movies because it has that ideal "southern diner" look.

They have these really fun shirts for sale and lots of other goodies too :)

It's so popular that most celebrities make it a point to stop by for breakfast or brunch when they visit Atlanta. Right by the door, they have photos of all of the famous people who've dined at Silver Skillet. A recent famous visitor was Janelle Monáe - so cool!

Enjoy! <3

Bumble jacket necklace {stella & dot}

95% of the time, I wear my pearl necklace. My mom handed it down to me for my 21st birthday and I've basically lived in it since then. But when I'm not wearing my pearls, I like to wear this bumble bee necklace! My college's mascot is the yellow jacket, so a bumble bee is a close comparison :)

Lots of people have made comments on the necklace and I really love it too. It's perfect to wear for game days or at other Georgia Tech events.

I got the necklace as a gift from our student government president, Elle!

She got it from Stella & Dot - they have some really cute products!

Happy Friday! Have a fantastic weekend! <3

DUI Attorney {The Kavinoky Law Firm}

  As a new  college student you will get to meet new people, make friends, take classes that interest you, and also grow as an individual outside of the influence of mom and dad. However, this freedom comes with new responsibilities.

  Underage drinking is a well-known problem for many college students. But when underage drinking is coupled with driving under the influence, the consequences can be severe for all involved. Under the influence of alcohol, your motor coordination, vision, and overall driving ability are all impaired. It is important to understand it is NEVER worth the risk to drink and drive.

  If you do make the mistake of driving under the influence and are arrested for a first DUI offense, it is important to seek the counsel of a professional DUI attorney.

  In the state of California, a DUI first offense will result in two different actions:
1)      The District Attorney or city prosecutor’s office will bring a criminal case to the offender
2)      The DMV will take a separate action and suspend the offender’s driving license

   Although both of these actions come as a direct result from a DUI arrest, the outcome of one has no bearing on the outcome of the other. In other words, it is possible to be found not guilty by the criminal court but guilty by the DMV.

  If you are faced with a DUI investigation, it is in your best interest to find professional legal counsel. A good DUI attorney can help you navigate the intricacies of California DUI law and help you achieve the best possible outcome for your case.

If you are facing charges for a California DUI first offense, contact the lawyers at The Kavinoky Law Firm.

Impromptu Dinner Parties

The best dinner parties are the impromptu dinner parties. Proof that I don't always eat out, hehe. I told my roommate last Monday how I just felt like cooking and having people over, and luckily she was on the same page!

Finished products!
So we agreed to have a small dinner party for some of our closest friends last Friday, and it was a success! We didn't do much planning -- I planned out the menu in my head while driving to the grocery store:

  • Chicken Meatballs
  • Chicken cordon bleu
  • Roasted tomatoes with mozzarella
  • Mac & cheese
  • Lime & Chipotle chicken with pineapples
And some other goodies! My roomie also made some amazingggg cornbread and some fruit topped cookies! People loved the food, so it was a really good time!

You don't always  need a special occasion to have people over and show them you care :)

Harlem Shake {movement}

I know I have a lot of international  viewers, so I'm wondering how many of you have heard of this new trend called "Harlem Shake" where people make short videos for Youtube. The videos all have the same song, they have one person dancing/moving crazily in the beginning while everyone else in the video remains pretty stationary. Then about haldway through, everyone goes CRAZY!

My college has taken on a "Harlem Shake Challenge" between different organizations, and I've put some of my favorites below. They're all super short, check them out and let me know what you think. Haha, it's silly but they're really fun to create! <3

Therapeutic Activities

I took this photo a few days ago. It's (part of) the Midtown skyline, but I was more obsessed with how perfect the sky looked! One thing that calms me down is observing my surroundings like nature & the buildings in Atlanta.

It's important to make time for therapeutic activities, especially when school/life get stressful. I've put some of the most popular calming activities below.

How do you relax?

Eating in ATL {taqueria del sol}

I've done a lot of "Eating in ATL" posts recently -- sorry I'm not sorry, hehe. ATL has so many cool and delicious restaurants and I'm trying to explore as many as possible.

With my birthday card & Starbucks gift card
from Hannah :)

I tried out Taqueria del Sol for the first time last week when I met up with my high school friend, Hannah, for a late birthday dinner :) It's one of Hannah's favorite spots because of their quick & friendly service, fresh tasting tacos, and fun atmosphere.

Our tacos - we ate them all!
I will warn you that this restaurant has peak hours when they're extremely busy and they also have unique hours for when they're open.

Hannah with the queso we ordered!
I got a mix of chicken and fish tacos & I loved the sauces they added to them.

 It's a great place for quick meals and a twist to classic Mexican dishes.
