Upcoming ATL concerts

One of the great things about living in ATL is that we have some of the best concerts and shows throughout the year. I love going to concerts and hearing live music -it's such a fun way to spend time with friends! Last week, I bought tickets to see Nas and Lauryn Hill with my best friend, so excited! I've included some upcoming shows so you (and I) can start saving up for the tickets, it will be worth it! <3

Why {seth} loves ATL

Seth

College student

Why do you love ATL:

I never realized how much I love Atlanta until I spent spent two semesters studying abroad. Coming home was fresh and exciting as there is always something big going on. Whether it's the Dogwood Festival, Music Midtown, the Pride Festival, Dragoncon, or Taste of Atlanta, there is something for everyone. Eating in Atlanta is also fun. My personal favorite quickies are Taqueria del Sol, FIGO Pasta, Yeah! Burger, and La Fonda Latina.

This may sound strange, but when I need a breather, I walk through Crestlawn Cemetery in NW Atlanta. It has breathtaking views of downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead from the top of its hills.

FOREVER {WE} LOVE ATLANTA

Game day in ATL {georgia tech}

One of my favorite Georgia Tech traditions is going to football games. I love the game day atmosphere and the energy of all of the students & fans. And of course...I love seeing all of the game day outfits. Lots of big schools in the south dress up for game days, which is great. At Tech, it's a mix of people who really dress fancy, people who casually put old gold and white together and people who wear t-shirts and jeans. We definitely have our own game day style, and I love it.

Before the game, I took some photos of friends who looked super cute -- see below! <3

Left: Love Akriti's polka dot dress and shoes!
Right: Love Elle's gold skirt and navy combo!

Left: Love Lauren's white one-shoulder dress & boots!
Middle: Love Leigh's gold belt & boots!
Right: Love Cassie's gold shorts and shoes!

Left: Love Merry Hunter & Palmer's dresses with gold belts!
Right: Love Tamiko, Toyin, & Norquata's casual tops with light pants!

It was so much fun taking pictures of the different outfits, hopefully I can do it again at our next home game! <3

Contributing Blogger {life lessons}

4 months and 12 days have elapsed since I decided to join the “Real World."

I can safely say that I was not fully prepared for it…But honestly there are some lessons not learned until the die is cast and the mistakes are done.

One of these lessons is not so intuitive. Productivity is golden in the realm of business. Not only is achieving a high level of productivity vital but maintaining it as well. To keep productivity up, you've got to find a rhythm in your daily activities less you become idle. What I mean by this is the following: Structure your work activities, but more so, schedule said activities so you maximize your most productive hours of the day.

Example: I am a morning person (…well now anyways) and I get a large portion of my work done at the do-it-yourself pest control company I work for before the 2pm mark every day. Once 2pm rolls around, I noticeably get slower in my working pace. I am aware of this and have compensated accordingly by front loading my workload for the first half of the day. Afterwards, I spend the remaining time in my work day as a buffer to finish up the last loose ends or plan for the next day.

Now this was not meant to scare you kids, on the contrary, I’m writing this as a testament that it can be done by anyone. Just take a look at your parents, they have mostly likely gone through the same motions and look how they turned out…

Fall Blazers

Despite the fact that this week is insanely busy, I have really been enjoying every day because of this fall weather we're currently experiencing in ATL. The rain isn't much fun, but the breezes and leaves starting to change colors is exciting. All signs that Fall is so so close and Fall fashions are even closer! My favorite outerwear has to be blazers. They make any outfit more interesting and classy/professional and come in so many great colors. I inherited about 80% of my blazers/sports coats from my grandmother who had quite the collection, but most stores sell them. And, they're great for men and women! <3

Music in ATL {music midtown 2012}

September is flying by! Music Midtown, Atlanta's Music Festival, is this coming weekend -- so exciting. Lots of great bands are playing this year, including some of my favorites (T.I., Girl Talk, Ludacris and Florence + the Machine).

The event is happening in Piedmont Park, one of my favorite places in Atlanta, and will definitely be a good time. It's not too late to buy tickets! <3

Fall is busy, drink coffee

Just like every Fall semester, this semester is SO busy. I'm kind of a work-a-holic so working and being busy is fun for me...but this is a whole new level. Besides taking classes, I'm involved in a few organizations at Tech, writing my senior thesis (30 page paper), working two jobs, spending time with family and friends AND working on my book. It's a lot.

I have to take a break every now and then and just relax, read the Bible, pray for guidance and strength.  I also drink coffee on a semi-regular basis (when I have a lot to do) in order to stay awake and perky :) I'm beyond happy that Starbucks is selling their Pumpkin Spice Latte again this year.

How do you manage it all? <3

Eating in ATL {bone garden cantina}

I'm excited to share another hidden treasure of Atlanta with you! A few weeks ago, I went to dinner with my best friend Nick at Bone Garden Cantina. It's a really fun and eclectic restaurant in West Midtown that serves fantastic, fresh and authentic Mexican food. See the full menu here!

Once you get inside the restaurant, there are authentic Mexican decorations and artworks everywhere...almost like you're having dinner in Mexico! I had so much trouble deciding what to order because so many things sounded delicious. I ended up ordering their chicken quesadilla that comes with super fresh guacamole. It's a fun environment and the food is a must try! <3

We will never forget {9/11}

Today marks an eery day in American history, but also a day we have chosen to never forget. I'm so grateful for the service men and women who protected our nation and civilians on September 11th, 2001 and God bless those who had their lives taken because of terrorism and the effects of that terrorism. At Georgia Tech, we have a display of small flags in the ground near central campus to serve as a reminder. How do you remember this day in history and honor those who lost their lives?

Crazy week encouragement

This past week was crazy crazy busy. For me, it was full of classes, events, meetings, and random other tasks that kept me in motion. I guess it was a busy week for several of my friends as well because I heard from a few of them how stressed and discouraged the week had made them. I think everyone has these moments of weakness, (especially busy college students). It's important that we react to the moments the right way. I told each of my friends something similar to the quotation above & I think it helped...how do you encourage your friends/yourself?

Have a great week! <3

ATL college students {gotta vote}

Now that both the RNC & DNC are over, politics are about to get real. Regardless of your political beliefs, take the time to be an informed voter and also make sure you are registered to vote! I registered just days after turning 18 and I'm so excited and grateful to vote in my first presidential election in November.

GottaVote is one of many websites that will help college students register to vote and explain more about the process.

Long Distance Voter is a great resource for out of state students who need an Absentee Ballot.

Make your voice heard <3!

Cooking together as a college organization

A couple of weekends ago, I had a retreat with one of my organizations at Tech. The first half of the retreat involved goal setting, personality test-taking, planning, etc. And the second half was all about bonding! Instead of playing awkward question and answer games or something similar to that, we cooked a giant meal together.

It was kind of a random yet delicious meal: chicken & steak tacos, french fries, sweet potato fries, fruits, grilled squash and zucchini, brownies, salad, macaroni & cheese...and more! It was so much fun cooking and eating as a group. We definitely learned more about each other and we got to see a different side to the boys in the group :)

I highly recommend it for small organization get-togethers!
Enjoy! <3

Staying safe in ATL {radKIDS}

My boss sent out this video to show how a non-profit organization, radKIDS, that he is involved with is working to teach kids how to stay safe and fight back if they are abducted. While abduction is a major issue for children, it also happens all too often to young women as well. I watched the video and made mental notes for how to fight off an attacker -- one of these tips could save your life in the case of an emergency. <3

DIY Project {dress to skirt}

Happy Labor Day! I love holidays because they're a great opportunity to catch up on homework, respond to emails, spend time with family & friends, or do the little things I usually don't have time for - like do it yourself projects. Here's an idea for a DIY project:

I bought a really cute denim-like dress on sale from Urban Outfitters (similar to the one on the model), but the top half was wayyy too tight. Instead of throwing it to the back of my closet, I decided to cut it into a high waisted skirt. I love the color and material and it made for the perfect length skirt for church, interviews, and any other formal occasion.

Enjoy! <3

Brunching in ATL {urban pl8}

Eating brunch after a fun night out with friends is one of my favorite things to do. It's a great time to catch up on the funny things that happened the night before, eat delicious food and drink great coffee. This morning I went to brunch with my friends Alison & Ellie and we wanted to go somewhere that the tourists currently invading the city of Atlanta wouldn't be at -- Urban Pl8. It's located in a quiet part of West Midtown, a hidden treasure :)

It's a perfect spot for brunch, lunch and dinner. I've been five or six times but they had never been and loved it. The prices are great and they have a great selection of organic foods, veggie options and creative burgers.

Try it the next time you're craving brunch in Atlanta and let me know what you think <3!
